Inaugural
Spectacular
The first ever Portland Queer Arts Spectacular, showcasing the finest of Portland’s queer art scene.
Alexander Frazier
Alexander Frazier has been an art kid since he started singing at age three. He picked up violin and piano soon after, and by nine he was hooked on opera. He studied music composition and vocal performance at CalArts, Boston Conservatory, and The New School, and has written several operas.
In 2016, Alex founded the Chinquapin Summer Festival for the Arts in Southern Oregon. Its Transcend Queer Arts Festival, produced with the Radical Faeries at Wolf Creek, paired visiting artists with more than 30 local queer artists in the woods. A stretch away from arts administration, working as a massage therapist, showed him firsthand how hard it is to fund and make art. That experience shapes his work now.
As co-founder and founding Artistic Director of Portland Queer Arts, Alex has worked to build audiences for unapologetically queer work that is daring, sexy, dark, and joyful. He also wants to create spaces where people stay after the show and build community around the art.

Val E. Dation is thrilled to be your DQC for the Portland Queer Arts Spectacular!
In case you’re new to the term, DQC stands for Dairy Queen of Ceremo- just kidding… (Val is lactose intolerant!) It actually means Drag Queen of Ceremonies! 👑💅💃
Val, aka @Ariel.moves (they/them), is a professional dancer of over 10 years, with a career spanning three continents, in genres ranging from contemporary dance to musical theatre to street cabaret. They stumbled into drag shortly after moving to Portland, and have blossomed upon finally finding an art form large enough to allow them to fully express their queerness, in every form that it takes.
Who is Val? Val is raunchy. He is campy. She is sexy. Most of all though, they are REAL. In and out of drag, Val/Ariel is obsessed with bringing authenticity everywhere they go. Val is a generous girl, and he just wants everyone to be happy. After all… the world would be a better place if everyone could just have a lot Val E. Dation inside of them… 😉
Join us for an unforgettable evening guided by the irreverent and multi-talented Val E. Dation, Sunday, September 8th at 5PM at The Alberta Rose Theatre in our inaugural Queer Arts Spectacular! 🦄

Photo: Sidekick Photography Avery is a queer chaos crypted poet based in Portland, Oregon. Avery spends his time writing, dreaming, and cuddling their 4 legged daughter (who is, arguably, cooler than he is by far). Avery's work focuses on the magic within everyday action and intent, and his hope is that those who leave his shows know that they are not alone.
Princess Grace Award winner Franco Nieto was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He made the unconventional switch from football to ballet in his teenage years and has now taught and danced in over 10 different countries and performed with the likes of Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John.

His early training came from the Vancouver School of Arts & Academics and Columbia Dance, and his formative line of choreography was born from his mentorship with Tracey Durbin. He graduated with his BFA in Jazz from Point Park University. Franco, is a founder and Artistic Director of Portland’s newest contemporary dance company and School, Open Space.

Justin is delighted to bring her to the west coast and honored to be in the company of such a wonderful cornucopia of fellow queer artists. Haribol!
